Safe and Loving Boarding for Small Dogs only
Small dogs (max 10Kg when fully grown) deserve a space where they can feel secure, cared for, and happy while their owners are away – without being overwhelmed by their large or boisterous cousins. Our boarding service is designed to give pets the attention, comfort, and structure they need in a calm, homely setting. Every detail is focused on their wellbeing and happiness. Come bedtime, dogs will sleep where they would at home – so if this means they sleep on your bed, they can sleep on ours too!
During the day they have the choice of the leather dog sofa, dog beds on the floor, raised dog beds, and the large dog unit (2m x 1m). There are even steps on and off the sofa so small dogs or elderly dogs don’t miss out. With a full licensing 5-star license, insurance, and decades of experience, you can trust that your pet is receiving safe, professional, and loving care throughout the day, giving you complete peace of mind.

A Home Environment with Companionship and Play
At SWAT Pets, we believe small dogs thrive best in a home environment, where they can feel safe and relaxed. Our home provides just that – a welcoming space designed with their comfort in mind. Instead of kennels, dogs enjoy cosy indoor surroundings, constant attention, and the reassurance of a family setting with laps available for cuddles, that helps them settle quickly.
Companionship and play are central to our Boarding service. We spend time interacting with all dogs, offering exercise, toys, and opportunities to socialise with other small calm (max 10Kg only), friendly breeds.
This balance of fun, stimulation, and comfort ensures pets are happy, content, and cared for throughout their stay.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions owners ask about our dog day care service in Lydbrook.
At SWAT Pets, we specialise in caring for small calm dogs only.
We accept calm breeds up to 10kg in weight (when fully grown), ensuring an environment in which they will feel safe and amongst peers. By focusing on smaller breeds, we can provide the right level of attention, exercise, and comfort suited to their needs.
(eg A Golden Retriever puppy would not be able to come, as when fully grown they would be over both restrictions)
A typical day at SWAT Pets includes playtime, exercise suited to your dog’s size, rest breaks, and plenty of companionship. We provide a home environment where dogs of all ages feel comfortable and secure. Our routine ensures they stay active, stimulated, and happy, finally settling down on a lap for the evening and then to bed.
Our Boarding service covers up to 24 hours, or any overnight stay, running between 08:00hrs to 20:00hrs. With no fixed drop off and collection times, this is dictated by you. This gives flexibility to drop off in the morning or later in the evening. Of course, you could opt for your dog(s) to be collected and dropped back at times suitable to you (NB Transport charges apply).
For longer than 24hrs, add a day care to your Boarding to make the perfect timings work for you.
Yes, SWAT Pets is fully licensed by the local council – to a 5-Star standard – and insured for pet care services, including boarding (by Cliverton Insurance). This means we follow strict welfare standards and offer complete peace of mind.
Yes. We are experienced in administering medication to pets, including oral tablets, suppositories, even injections – such as insulin injections for diabetic dogs. If your dog has special medical needs, we’ll follow your instructions carefully to ensure they receive the right treatment at the right time. This helps owners feel confident their pet’s health is always supported.
They will sleep in a similar location to at home. If it’s downstairs at home, it will be here. If it’s upstairs at home, it will be here. If it’s on your bed it will be here!
If they normally sleep in a crate (with the door open or closed), then that will also be the same here – including if the door is open or closed.
We understand that some dogs will be overawed by being in a location they don’t know, and that sleeping alone downstairs will be too much for them. Ian wakes very early in the morning (between 03:00hrs & 04:00hrs) and will therefore be downstairs with them for a lot of the “night hours”. They will remain in a crate with the door closed if that’s what you want, but if you’re happy for them to come out and sleep the rest of the night on Ian’s lap, then that’s what we’ll do.
Everything the we do is dictated by you – wherever possible.
In short – Yes. There is a 6ft fence that surrounds our property, with a double barrier between them and the exit gate. The base of the fence is checked regularly to ensure the there are no escape tunnels being dug. Because of this, we don’t have any visitations from hedgehogs, and have seen no evidence of either foxes or boar in the more than a decade we have lived here.
Contact for availability
Contact us with your service requirements, your dog’s details (breed, etc), and the dates you require.
Meet & Greet
If you’ve not been to us before – or for a long time – we will then organise a mutually suitable date & times for a “Meet & Greet”.
The Meet & Greet takes place off lead in our front garden, so your dog will not feel constrained in any way, and can just wander around having a good sniff of things. Being outside it is, of course, weather dependant – and if we’ve scheduled a date & time, then a storm turns up, we’ll need to reschedule.
Once they’re happy that they’ve caught up on all the latest information from the pee-mails that’re in the garden (we only use it for Meet & Greets; no dogs are routinely left out in it), we introduce our dogs one at a time (4 x Cavalier King Charles Spaniel & 1 x Corgi) so that yours doesn’t feel overwhelmed – and we take it at a pace that is governed by how your dog is feeling – and whilst they’re getting to know each other we will ask you all sorts of questions so that we can have a good picture as to what your dog wants from “A typical day”. We stick with the rules that you have at home (are they allowed on furniture or not, are they allowed upstairs or not, do they even sleep on your bed – because they can here!), so that they don’t pick up any habits you’d not want.
The process takes about an hour, but can be longer or shorter – it all depends on how much information needs to be passed back & forth, and Jen does them – unfortunately Ian’s spine is a little messed up, so he can’t stand for long periods anymore.
Trail Overnight Stay (if applicable)
If the stay is for over three nights, new DEFRA regulations stipulate that your pets must come for a 24hr trial stay; this can be organised at any time you like, but we recommend the sooner the better – that way, if for whatever reason your dogs are not happy here, you have plenty of time to organise alternative arrangements.
Confidence Stays (if required)
Although not mandatory for DEFRA regulations, we suggest that your dogs come to stay with us for trial day care(s) and/or boarding(s), so they get used to you returning and collecting them.
